Toronto house where Prince Harry’s fiancée lived is on sale

If you are wealthy enough to shell out C$1,395,000 for a two-storey, three bed-room house in Toronto, you can claim a piece of British royal history.

The realtors who have advertised the property at No.10 Yarmouth Road in the upscale Toronto neighbourhood of Seaton Village expects a bidding war because it is where Prince Harry’s American fiancée lived and where the last eligible bachelor of the British royalty had some private time with the future princess.

The people living down the road were curious when security vehicles and giant SUVs with tinted windows and paparazzi in hot pursuit began to appear in their quiet neighbourhood, but then the story of the royal fairy tale surfaced from nowhere.

People still would have thought it was just another short-term dalliance of the fun-loving royal. Once he sojourned here on his way to Kingston, Jamaica to represent his grand mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at a banquet held to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

The world media constantly splashed pictures of shy, ever-smiling Meghan at street corners, hugging bunches of peonies and carrying grocery bags or walking her dogs…and then the famous Invictus Games happened!

According to local press reports there is a rumour in the area that the prince and the future princess had toured the area wrapped in Halloween costumes on October 31 evening but there is no credible evidence.

She had rented the property from a couple who bought the house for $508,000 in 2007 when she was acting in the hit television series Suits in Toronto. The going rate of a normal property in the area is around $600,000.

The house itself is nothing out of the ordinary for the neighbourhood, says Toronto Life. “It’s a detached, two-storey, three-bedroom home with a two-car garage. Although it was a rental property, it wasn’t divided into separate units.”

Meghan rented the entire building and the standout feature of the property is its landscaped back garden, which is exceptionally private because it faces a laneway, rather than another row of homes.

There will be public open houses at the property this weekend, according to the realtor and the property is not marketed as an ex-royal residence.

She has officially moved out of this home at the end of November. Her furniture has gone into storage while personal belongings have been shipped to the UK. Her two pet dogs, a beagle named Guy and a labrador-shepherd named Bogart, are temporarily with her mother who lives in Los Angeles and will join her in London soon. The address mentioned in the passports of the two dogs is that of Prince Harry’s.

Meghan, 36, has been living in Toronto since landing her role in Suits in 2011. The actress has regularly given fans a glimpse inside her tastefully decorated home on her Instagram account.
