Supermodel Gigi Hadid and former One Direction singer Zayn Malik have split after being together for two years and four months, according to latest celebrity news.
“They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other,” a source close to them has said. “The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time. They have crazy work schedules that would put pressure on any relationship.”
The pair briefly broke up and got back together in June 2016. They first met in November 2015 after a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show party. “She knows how to carry herself. She’s quite classy and that. She’s not, like, arrogant in any way, she’s confident. She carries it well. She’s cool,” said love-struck Malik after their first date.
The Sun, UK tabloid, noticed that Malik had unfollowed Hadid, along with a few members of her famous family, after the news of their breakup.
“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving relationship,” he tweeted while Gigi responded saying that she’ll be “forever grateful for the love, time and life lessons” she shared with ‘Z’.
There had been a great deal of animosity between Gigi and Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, Zayn’s ex-fiancee. Gigi began dating Malik just months after he called off his engagement to Perrie via text after being together for four years.
The stunning 23-year-old singer was left devastated and had to move her belongings out of their shared home while Mallick, 23, moved on with Gigi to Los Angeles.
Perrie retaliated by hooking up with actor Luke Pasqualino but she split after a few months of dating, saying there was ‘no spark’ between herself and the handsome hulk. Now she is dating Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal soccer player and young England international.
Malick, born Zain Javad Malik in England to a British Pakistani father and English mother, is worth £51 million. He is a Muslim and speaks Urdu, as well as being able to read Arabic and he avoids putting his opinions online after his tweet “#FreePalestine” caused outrage in 2014.
He made his last live appearance with One Direction in March 2015 and announced he was quitting a week later, writing in a statement that he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight”. The news of his departure from the boy band sent shock waves through the enormous One Direction fan base, who are still not quite over it to this day.
Gigi was placed 5th in the list of highest paid ($9.5 million) celebrities last year according to Forbes Magazine. Her younger sister Bella who is the youngest model in the ranking is at No. 9.
