Four-year-old Sri Lankan boy becomes youngest writer in the world

Four-year-old Thanuwana Serasinghe who is living in Seychelles has created a Guinness record by being the youngest writer in the world.

According to his class teacher, the ‘super kid’ has learnt alphabets of seven languages even before entering the kindergarten and began writing poems, coming first in several competitions.

The current Guinness record is held by a Brazilian kid, Adauto Kovalski Da Silva of Brazil, who wrote a book at the age of five years and 302 days while Thanuwara has achieved that feat when he was just four years and 356 days.

The Brazilian youngster who created the record in 2007 with his book “Learning is Easy” also holds another record. He is the youngest to paint on canvas, according to Brazilian media.

Thanuwara’s debut titled ‘Junk Food’ discussing the bad health effects of fast food was launched at an event held in Victoria, capital of Seychelles Islands with the first copy being presented to Vincent Meritone, the Vice President of the country.

Thanuwana, the son of Sri Lankan Thusitha Serasinghe who is a hotel industry professional in the Indian Ocean island, used to eat lot of chocolates and sweets and one day he became the subject of laughter in the school playground when he could not run with his friends.

According to his class teacher, he felt so sad and decided to turn his embarrassment into something constructive.

His stories were inspired when he sat under what he calls ‘a magic apple tree.’ The tree spoke to him about the goodness of fruits and veggies, and dropped an apple for him to eat. That was where his main character called Sam was born. Young author hopes to write a series of books based on Super Sam’s experiences. He is a Grade Two student in the International School of Victoria.
