A Sri Lankan-born Tamil television actor, Indra Kumar, committed suicide on February 18, according to Chennai police. The twenty-five-year-old actor had been living in a refugee camp in Chennai

According to friends, Indra Kumar had failed to get good opportunities to act in movies and had a few misunderstandings with his wife. He did not leave a suicide note. He worked in a television serial in Chennai and had an infant son.

A friend of the actor told the police that Kumar went to see a film with his buddies on Wednesday evening and slept alone in a room in his house. When he knocked in the following morning, Kumar did not open the door. When he gained entry to the room, he had found the actor’s motionless body. The police rushed to the house and sent the body for a postmortem examination.

Having worked in several Tamil TV serials, Indra Kumar had been looking for work for a long time. The real reason behind Kumar’s decision to die by suicide is not known. But the police believe that the reason may be financial constraints, as many celebs in the Corona era were unemployed due to lack of work.

Earlier that week, MS Dhoni  actor, Sandeep Nahar, shared a video before hanging himself at his residence.

Nahar died by suicide on February 16 after posting the video and a note on his Facebook. According to Mid-day newspaper, the actor’s wife Kanchan did not know about his death until her father-in-law called asking about the video. She was in a room in the same Goregaon apartment when the actor hanged himself to death.

He appeared in Sushant Singh Rajput’s movie MS Dhoni and Akshay Kumar’s Kesari. Before his death, he took to his Facebook to share the 10-minute video about his struggle and relationship with his wife. In the clip, he said, “I would’ve died by suicide a long time ago, but I chose to give myself the time and hope that things would get better, but they didn’t. I now have nowhere to go. I don’t know what awaits me after I take this step, but I’ve been through hell in this life.”

He also mentioned ‘politics’ in the Bollywood movie industry and police think it could be a probable cause of his dilemma. The actor died three hours after uploading the video.

On June 14, 2020, MS Dhoni lead actor Susanth Singh Rajput aged 34, was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan, in his home in Bandra, Mumbai. He had reportedly shown signs of clinical depression and was suffering from bipolar disorder. The Mumbai Police commenced an investigation, stating that the death was being treated as a suicide.

On September 25, 2017, a popular Sri Lankan TV and movie actor recorded his own suicide on his cellphone when he hanged himself from a ceiling fan. Dasun Nishan de Silva committed suicide in a rooming house in Pannipitiya, a suburb about 30 minutes east of Colombo.

He wrote a Facebook post one month before his death which we see as something prophetic. The English translation of the post on August 26 says, “With my eyes closed and my mind toughened by this tragedy, may my sacrificed life be released into the deep end of the waters. RIP.” Another post on August 24 said, “Bad decisions taken in the past can destroy the present.” www.newstrails.com
