Rajput: ‘Nobody invites me to their parties and functions. Bollywood is not accepting me as a family’.

Sushant Singh Rajput, the star of 2016 blockbuster based on the troubled life of Indian cricketing superman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was found dead in his Mumbai residence on Sunday, five days after his former manager, a woman, died after falling off a high-rise building.

According to police reports, the 34-year-old Bollywood hunk was found hanging in his apartment in suburban Bandra, Mumbai, on June 14.

Rajput, who started his showbiz career in television, made his Bollywood debut in 2013 in Kai Po Che, based on the book by Chetan Bhagat. He is known for his portrayal of former Indian cricket team captain Dhoni in the 2016 film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. Among his other movies are Kedarnath, Sonchiriya (Golden Bird) and Raabta (Connection). He was last seen in the 2019 Netflix film Drive.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) web site mentioned the phone number of the Canada Suicide Prevention Service at the end of Rajput’s article.

Actress Deepika Padukone, who has been open about her experiences with mental health, posted a statement with the hashtag “#YouAreNotAlone,” saying, “I cannot stress enough about the importance of reaching out”. Her Twitter comment has come under fire from many fans of the actor. Someone asks her, “Why didn’t you help him?”

Another fan’s Twitter post asks Deepika: “I remember the interview where Sushanth said that nobody ‘invites me to their parties and functions’…He said that Bollywood is not accepting him as a family, and he feels left out…Do you have the answer madam…why this?”

Leading politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top Bollywood stars, took social media to offer condolences.

Rajput’s former manager Disha Malad died as she fell from a Mumbai high-rise just five days before the actor’s death. According to press reports, she accidentally fell from the 12th floor of a building while in an inebriated state. Her on-again, off-again boyfriend, was said to be with her when the tragedy occurred.

Rajput dated actress Ankita Lokhande for a few years.  Before his death he was intimately close to actress Rhea Chakraborty. Even though they had not officially talked about their relationship in the media, there were rumours about their wedding.

In a TV interview, Rajput’s cousin revealed that the actor was planning to get married in November this year. He didn’t reveal the girl’s name but said that the family was gearing up for the wedding, and preparations were on to visit Mumbai soon.

The last pictures of the couple are going viral. When asked about their close relationship, the 27-year-old actress and former VJ of MTV India, said: “Sushant is a dear friend. I have known him for many years! No more comments on this.”

On January 21, Rajput’s birthday, she published a picture of them hugging on a park bench with a Twitter post saying: “Happy birthday to the most beautiful ‘supermassive black hole’ that is known for mankind! Shine on you crazy diamond @itsSSR.”

According to press reports Rajput was suffering from depression and was taking medications.   Director Mukesh Bhatt said he met Rajput sometime back and saw that he ‘was a disturbed soul.’

He added: “Sushant was a very disturbed boy. He was not there; while talking to me, I felt that he was not on the same plain. There was something amiss, something wrong.”
